Statement from the CAGC BoD to our membership regarding the possible US Supreme Court overturning of both Roe and Casey.

The leaked draft SCOTUS (US Supreme Court) opinion on the overturning of both Roe and Casey poses an alarming threat to the right to access legal abortion in the United States of America. The Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC) strongly supports the right to autonomy over one’s body and access to legal, safe, professionally-performed abortions.

As a profession, we strive to provide pregnant individuals with comprehensive information in a non-directive manner to empower informed reproductive decision-making that aligns with personal values, needs, and circumstances. This includes the option to abort a pregnancy affected with a genetic condition and/or anomalies.

The CAGC stands with patients and our colleagues in the United States of America in calling for the US Supreme Court to maintain the right to a legal, accessible, timely, and safe abortion.
