As reflected in the 2024–2029 Strategic Plan, CAGC’s mission is to strengthen the genetic counselling profession in Canada by providing members with education, community, support, and leadership.

What is a Genetic Counsellor?
Genetic counsellors are health professionals with specialized training in medical genetics and counselling.
They work as part of a healthcare team to support people and families who may have questions about inherited conditions, genetic testing, or the role genetics may play in their health.
Genetic counsellors help explain complex genetic information in clear, understandable ways. They provide information about the nature, inheritance, and possible implications of genetic conditions, helping individuals make informed medical and personal decisions that are right for them.
