Genetics Knowledge Dissemination Speaker’s Bursary
Conference Bursary for Non-Genetics Medical Specialties
The Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors is pleased to offer two bursaries of up to $750 each to certified genetic counsellors who have been accepted as a speaker at a Canadian conference in a non-genetics medical specialty. These bursaries are intended to support genetic counsellors as they present to non-genetics health professionals, helping to educate the broader healthcare community on the essential roles that certified genetic counsellors play in patient care.
Eligibility
To be considered, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Hold current certification from the Canadian Board of Genetic Counselling (CBGC) and/or American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)
- Be a Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC) member in good standing
- Have an abstract accepted for an oral presentation, or be an invited speaker, at a Canadian conference in a non-genetics medical specialty
Conferences that are not eligible for this bursary include, but are not limited to: the CAGC Annual Education Conference, the CCMG Annual Meeting, the International Symposium on Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer, and any conference held outside of Canada.
Use of Funds
Awarded funds may only be used for expenses directly related to the conference and may not be used to supplement salary. An itemized budget outlining anticipated expenses must be submitted with the application. Recipients are required to acknowledge funding from the CAGC during their presentation.
Selection and Notification
A decision will be made by the CAGC Board of Directors within one month of the application deadline, and all applicants will be notified of the outcome. Recipients may be announced through email, newsletter, at the Annual General Meeting, and through other communications as determined by the Board.
Please note the following additional considerations:
- An individual may only receive this bursary once every two years
- Preference may be given to applicants who hold Canadian certification (CBGC) and/or are presenting at a national-level conference rather than a provincial-level conference
- The Board reserves the right to divide the two bursaries among multiple applicants; however, the total amount awarded will not exceed $1,500 per year
- The Board also reserves the right to withhold the bursary if submitted applications are deemed not to adequately meet the eligibility criteria
