Leadership Awards
The CAGC is pleased to recognize members whose leadership, innovation, and dedication have advanced the genetic counselling profession in Canada.

The CAGC Professional Practice, Innovation, and Advocacy Leadership Award
This award recognizes a CAGC member who has made a significant contribution to the profession through leadership in clinical practice, research, education, mentorship, advocacy, policy or guideline development, service innovation, or public awareness.
What we're looking for:
- Demonstrated impact on the quality, standards, or delivery of genetic counselling services in Canada.
- Contributions that have advanced professional growth through research, education, mentorship, program development, or expanded access to services.
- Innovation, initiative, or leadership that has positively influenced the profession.
- Efforts that have increased awareness and understanding of genetic counselling among healthcare professionals, patients, policymakers, or the public.
This award honours individuals whose work reflects CAGC’s vision, mission, strategic goals, and values.
The CAGC New Leader Award
This award recognizes an emerging leader who has already made meaningful contributions to the CAGC and/or genetic counselling profession, or who demonstrates exceptional potential to shape its future.
What we're looking for:
- Meaningful contributions to the CAGC, the genetic counselling profession, or their local community of practice.
- Evidence of leadership, initiative, collaboration, or innovation early in their career.
- Strong potential to make a lasting impact on the future of genetic counselling in Canada.
Nominees must be within five years of graduating from their genetic counselling degree program and be current CAGC members.
The CAGC Lifetime Achievement Award
Presented every two years, this award recognizes an individual who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the genetic counselling profession in Canada over the course of their career. Examples include long-term leadership and impact in clinical practice, education, research, advocacy, innovation, service development, or public awareness.
What we're looking for:
- A sustained record of leadership and service to the profession over many years.
- Significant contributions that have shaped, expanded, or advanced genetic counselling in Canada.
- Lasting influence on the profession through clinical practice, education, research, advocacy, innovation, mentorship, or public awareness.
Nominees may be current or former active CAGC members.
Nominations
CAGC members are invited to submit nominations annually by July 25. We encourage you to nominate a deserving colleague—or yourself. A link to provide nominations will be circulated to members annually by e-blast.
Member Awards and Recognition

2025 CAGC New Leader AwardSamantha Rojas
Samantha Rojas is a clinical and systems leader who founded the Cardiogenetics Clinic at the McGill University Health Centre, establishing new service pathways and outcome measures. A trailblazer in genomic program development, she led the national launch of genomic services at TELUS Health and now serves as Senior Program Manager, integrating clinical and operational innovation. As a dedicated educator and mentor, she teaches and supports students at McGill and contributes nationally through the CAGC Meet a GC program, helping to shape the next generation of genetic counsellors.

2025 CAGC Professional Practice, Innovation, and Advocacy Leadership AwardStephanie Clarke
Stephanie Clarke is a transformational clinical leader who established multiple specialty cardiac genetics clinics in Manitoba, improving access to care for high-risk populations and earning the Manitoba Health Innovation Award for Patient-Centered Care. As Clinical Service Lead for Shared Health Genetics & Metabolism, she has advanced system-level improvements, reducing wait times and expanding GC-led services. A dedicated educator and mentor, she shapes future professionals through teaching and supervision across training levels. Nationally, as a founding board member of the Association of Genetic Counsellors in Manitoba and advocate through HiRO and the Canadian SADS Foundation, she champions the visibility and impact of genetic counselling across Canada.

2025 CAGC Lifetime Achievement AwardSusan Creighton
Susan Creighton is a foundational leader and pioneer of genetic counselling in Canada, serving as the founding President of the CAGC and shaping national standards, ethics, and professional identity. A dedicated educator and mentor for over 25 years in the UBC MSc Genetic Counselling Program, she has guided countless students and professionals through her teaching in ethics, psychosocial care, and predictive testing. As a clinical innovator, she advanced patient-centered programs in Huntington disease and hereditary cancer. A prolific researcher, her work on genetic discrimination and counselling practices continues to influence the field even after retirement.
