How Genetic Counsellors Support People
Genetic Counsellors are highly educated and accredited allied health professionals who are experts in helping people understand genetic information. They support individuals and families in accessing and interpreting genetic testing, and guiding them in whether testing is right for them. Genetic Counsellors have a diverse skill set to help people navigate their genomic health.
Their roles are wide-ranging and include – but are not limited to – designing and interpreting genetic tests; providing supportive and non-judgmental care; developing educational resources to help people understand and make informed choices; contributing to research and advances in genomics; and leading advocacy across private and public health sectors.
Genetic counselling supports care at any age, any stage of life, and across many different areas of medicine/health issues.
